Forming pairs and groups. Games. Working in pairs and groups is essential in active learning. It develops cooperation and interaction skills. The course considers pair and group work from different aspects. The course also introduces ideas for pair and group work for teachers teaching 3 to 12-year olds. The course is a part of entirety called Finnish active learning. It consists of four courses which introduce active teaching and learning from different perspectives. There are also activity ideas and practices for teachers and pupils. With course closures teachers can reflect on their thoughts of the course and get ideas for planning and accomplishing active learning. Once you complete the course you will be awarded a certificate.

Description

Course 4 consists of two lectures:

  1. Forming pairs and groups
    You can get acquainted with the advantages and disadvantages and the importance of pair and group work. We share some ideas of the equipment for forming pairs and groups. There are also concrete ideas on how the pupils can use their senses in forming pairs and groups.
  2. Games
    In the course we categorize some learning games. Games are an essential method in active learning.

Goals of the course for the teachers are…

  • To get versatile ideas for forming pairs and groups.
  • To get courage to form pairs and groups in various ways using activities.
  • To get acquainted with games.
  • To get lots of concrete, versatile, easy-to-implement activity ideas.

The total duration of the course 60 minutes. Additionally there are individual exercises.
