September 7th 2020 marks the 10-year anniversary of the start of Mobie Oy’s business. The company itself was already registered in July 2010, but the first employee, Joni Eskelinen, started his service at Mobie Oy in September, when the actual business started. Joni Eskelinen continues to work for Mobie Oy to this day.
The first services developed in 2010 were related to mobile pages created for (national organizations (e.g. Confederation of Finnish Industries, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Finnish Road Safety Council). This was when the Hirvivaara mobile application (APP) was developed for the Finnish Road Safety Council. In the summer of 2011, the HTML-5-based virtual magazine application Mobie Zine was launched, and it is in use to this day. The service is still widely used in ministries and other state organizations, to name a few examples.
From 2013 Mobie Oy has focused on developing digital learning solutions. All started from the 3-year OnEdu development program, in which 100 Finnish learning institutions participated in 2013-2015. Over 2500 teachers got to voice their expectations and wishes regarding the development of a future digital learning platform. In the beginning of 2016, the development of the global Mobie Academy platform was started, and the latest virtual event service, Mobie Forum, was launched in July 2020.
In 2016, the first sales companies were started in Hong Kong, which sparked the globalization of Mobie Oy. Today, Mobie Group consists of 11 operative companies in four countries: in Finland, Germany, the USA and China (Shanghai and Hong Kong). Part of the Mobie Group are also Mobie Sport Academy and Mobie Healthcare Academy.
The CEO and chairman of Mobie Oy is the founder of the company, Kari Vatanen.
